Timely Rejuvination of Irrigation Canal ensured Monsoon Crops in Hundreds of Acres

Village Aadampur to Thadisawali are the habitats fully dependent an agriculture.  An irrigation canal about 7 km of length was  the only source of water for agriculture. Due to decades of silting and sedimentation, the canal has been rendered defunct. SSM has undertaken the challenge of rejuvination of the canal. The work began on 11 th of May.  The MLA of local constituency and The District Collector have extended their support through the available government schemes, in completing the task.  Adopting 'Doh' model of re strengthening, deepening and widening of the canal, the work was a completed, opening scope for holding about 32 crore litres of water.
As a result, during this monsoon the wells around this  canal are fully recharged  and in particular, the over flow of water from the barren canal that would spread across hundreds of acres and spoil the crops has been prevented.  The mission was completed with an expenditure of 22 lakh Rupees,  out of which, Rupees 6 lakh was shared by  the government schemes and the local contribution.
         What Farmers say…..
Manoj Pente – “ The best part of this mission is the 'Doh'. These natural reservoirs store lakhs  of litres of water  which not only recharges  our bore wells but also come in  use, in case those wells fail and we need water for keeping our crops alive in emergency. So far we suffered great losses due to water overflowing from the so-called canal which used to  spread across our fields’.

Madhukar Kulkarni – "I am so glad to see, not even on acre of crop is damaged due to water stagnation on our field."

Balasaheb pente – “Ground water increased, bore wells are fully recharged,  water is not drowning our crops, what else do we need? We are so grateful to Sanskriti Samvardhan Mandal”.

Training imparted in Sericulture:

KVK Sagroli is adopting innovative approaches in motivating farmers towards switching over to modern agriculture from the conventional farming which is totally dependent on the rain fall.  As we all have been experiencing, the weather conditions are getting more unpredictable day by bay leaving the practicing farmers in a baffled state.
In such a situation Sericulture is proved to be the best alternative with low cost, low maintenance but high yielding agro based practice.  A training and awareness programme was organized at KVK sagroli on 11-12 August under the guidance of the Dist. Sericulture officer, Shri P.J. Patil.  The participants were explained in detail about the construction of the worm-rearing house, growing of Malbary plants, tendering the silk worms etc.

In support of the training, the participants are given a demonstration at the ideal silk-worm rearing house developed by KVK Sagroli.  As told by the KVK staff, the yield has also recorded high financial profits for the past one and half year.

Health Cards for the Agricultural Fields Distributed to Farmers:

In an another modest approach towards serving the farming community, the KVK, Sagroli moved a step forward by promoting ‘Health Cards’ for the agricultural lands.  Though the campaign is launched by the Govt. of India, the KVK has played catalyst in reaching out the grass root level at is jurisdiction.
Accordingly, the ‘Health Cards’ were distributed in 30 villages covering 1693 farmers in Biloli Taluka and in 16 villages (1251 farmers) of Dharmabad taluka.  The ‘Health Cards’ define precisely all the factors associated with the respective soil-sample, including the nature, fertility, deficiencies and the crops suitable for the season etc.

  Farmers Speaks –

“We used to rely upon the dealers blindly and spend thousands of rupees on the fertilizers.  We are, after all, lay men and helplessly spend on dumping more and more chemicals in our fields rendering our fields and ourselves infertile and sapless.  Now that we know everything about our soil and its needs, we won’t be cheated.  Thanks to ‘Health Cards’ and thanks to ‘KVK Sagroli’
